Erectile Dysfunction Treatment
There is no doubt that erectile dysfunction (ED) is a worrisome condition experienced by approximately 2.2% of the men in the United States. These figures are much higher in third world countries where men lack the means of proper nutrition and healthy life style. Keep in mind of course that these figures are comprised from men who actually seek treatment. There are many who suffer in silence and as such are never included in these statistics. Depending on who you talk to, Erectile Dysfunction can take on a slightly different meaning from one person to another. However, in general the most widely accepted and understood meaning of erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve or maintain a full erection during sexual intercourse. Soft erection, weak penis erection or partial erections fall into this category. The other category for ED is “chronic dysfunction”, this is when there is a complete failure to raise the penis under any circumstance. In fact, National Institute of Health findings suggest that approximately 20-40 million men in the United States alone suffer from chronic erectile dysfunction. And findings of National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey showed that approximately 2.2% of the men were treated for chronic ED in 1999. As if this isn’t enough, the number of erectile dysfunction problems increase with age. It is believed that as much as 5-10%of the men between their late thirties and early forties of will be impacted by chronic ED and this number will rise to as high as 30% for men between 40-65 years of age. Keep in mind that these figures are for “chronic ED” or complete erection failure and does not include other erection problems. To make matters worse, it is believed that men suffering from non chronic erectile disfunctionssuch as inadequate erection firmness will rise to over 50% for men between 40-75 years of age. Factors Which Contribute to Erectile Dysfunction There are two primary factors which contribute to erectile problems in men. First, it’s the onset of diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease, alcoholism, and atherosclerosis. Second, it’s the psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression. If you suffer from any of the above mentioned health conditions, it is highly recommended that you follow your doctor’s advice especially for keeping blood pressure and blood sugar under control. Make sure you take your medication on time and the right quantity. Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction Until recently, very few options were available to men to treat erectile dysfunction. Primarily men used vacuum pumps to achieve and maintain an erection. The vacuum pump is a device used to draw more blood into the penis which makes it stand upright. Today there are many prescription medications such as Viagra, Levitra, Cialis and others to aid men with their erection problems. However these medications must be taken with care as overuse can lead to more serious health conditions. Some of the most popular treatments for those not suffering from chronic erectile dysfunction are natural erection enhancers such as oil and gel products. These products are safe and highly effective in helping men archive and maintain a sold erection throughout the entire sexual intercourse.
