Fertility Tips for Men and Women
Several years ago when my wife and I were trying to conceive our first child, we tried for nearly 3 years without any success. We both had our selves checked out and everything appeared to be normal. My sperm count was relatively normal and fertile or at least within the required amount to be able to fertilize the egg and my wife had no issues either. It was frustrating, to say the least, and at times downright disappointing. We wanted a child of our own badly, and start our family. I know of people and friend who decided one month that they were going to have a baby and BAM next month they were pregnant. What were we doing wrong? To find the answer, we started speaking with friends and medical professionals. We took their tips and advice to heart and tried every thing they recommended and within three months my wife was pregnant. These are some of the useful fertility tips my wife and I received: - The first useful fertility tip we received was that following intercourse, Susan (my wife) should not run off to do anything immediately, instead she should lie down with her pelvis raised (by placing a pillow) for at least 20 minutes. This will allow the sperm to travel towards the egg with much ease as it is being helped by gravity.
- Try at least 10-15 minutes of foreplay to really get in the mood rather than just jumping into bed and having sex just for the sake of making a baby. Foreplay allows both partners to relax and makes the female much more susceptible to conception. The idea is to make sex fun and concentrate on the act instead of the purpose.
- Limit or better yet eliminate alcohol or drug use. Research has shown that men who do not use drugs or alcohol have sperm which is more fertile and motile. (see sperm motility)
- Refrain from masturbation. Doing so gets rid of healthy sperm which are required for making a healthy baby.
- Eat healthy. Increase the intake of fruits and vegetables which contain essential vitamins and mineral required by the body to function at its best. Eating healthy can increase fertility and increase your chances of conception.
- Take your supplements. Women should be taking their recommended dose of folic acid as well as other vitamins or minerals recommended by a physician. Men on the other hand are not required to take specific supplements but many do use natural sperm increasing supplements.
In addition to the above fertility tips there are also fertility aids which you can use to determine when the right time to start trying is. In other words, if your partner is not ovulating and thus no egg for the sperm to fertilize there isn’t really any point in trying to get pregnant. To determine if your partner is ovulating, there are over the counter kits you can purchase for a relatively low price. They are fairly accurate and easy to use (speaking from a man’s perspective). In addition, you may consider investing in a basal thermometer (we did not) which is used by women to check the internal temperature. The day the temperature is at its highest, this is the day she is ovulating. This is the best time for conception and she is most fertile. I’m not sure which one of the fertility tips worked for us as we tried almost all of them but I can tell you for a fact that at least one did. I can also tell you from my personal experience that if you do the things listed here you will conceive. Bewarned, there are challenges. Some of the fertility tips are not easy to do. For instance, it’s not easy to quit alcohol completely if you are a drinker and the same goes for “recreational drugs”. The secret isn’t so much in quitting, but limiting the use while you are trying. At the end of the day, it all depends on what you want the most.
